What is your past experience with the DSU or with student life in general on campus?

This year I was VP-Student Life for the DSU. In this role I coordinated initiatives ranging from Orientation Week and Grawood Friday Nights to the SUB chalkboard/mural project, TEDxHFX, and everything in between. For a full list of activities from the year visit www.VoteJamieArron.ca.

Before being elected as VPSL I was hired on as the DSU’s “leadership development director” for two years, building the Brains for Change program.

What is your favourite place on campus and why?

The Grawood! We’ve turned it into one of the best live music venues in the city. Beer is $2.50. and now we have brewtenders! Plus it’s the only place on campus I can stage dive and not get kicked out.  :)

Why are you running for the DSU?

In past years the DSU has seemed to be this distant entity that most students didn’t know much about or care about. This year we started some awesome initiatives to engage students and make our impact felt (eg. Grawood Friday nights and student ticket seller system, the SUB lobby redesign, Frost Week, TEDxHFX, Brains for Change, a stronger O-week, etc). I feel committed to helping carry on and strengthen this approach. My leadership style is very hands on, collaborative, and student centered and I would be excited to help embed and entrench this hands-on mission into the fabric of our union.

What’s your best memory from your time at Dal?

                                                                A tie:
                                                                a) Spending many days in first year playing guitar with res friends on the cliffs near Oxford St/ South St
                                                                 b) Watching as 2000 first year students flooded into Wickwire in a sea of black and gold at the close of this year’s O-week.

What would be your top three priorities if you got elected to this position?

                                                                a) Increasing variety and freshness of food in the SUB

                                                                b) Building a culture of learning on campus through programs such as TEDxHFX, Brains for Change, etc

                                                                c) Getting a foosball table in the SUB lobby and making the building into our campus’ living room.

                                                                Is it Gray-wood or Grah-wood?

Didn’t you see the video? 74% of students voted “Graywood”. C’mon now!
